Third Sunday of Lent – Gospel Reflection: Noontime at The Well

READINGS AT MASS

Exodus 17:3-7

Psalm 95

Rom.. 5:1-2, 5-8

John 4:5-42

Dear friends in Christ, N’wokafu YESU KRISTO…

The woman in today’s Gospel went to the well at noon to fetch water. It was an unusual time of the day to draw water. Most people came in the cool of the morning or evening. Perhaps she chose that lonely hour to avoid the crowd, the whispers, and the judging eyes of the townspeople who knew her story. She simply wanted to draw water quietly and return home unnoticed.

But Jesus was waiting for her there. He had come not to judge or condemn her, but to offer her living water.

Jesus was waiting to meet her in her moment of shame. He knew everything about her life. He was aware of her insatiable thirst, her broken relationships, and the silent burden of embarrassment she carried. He knew her longing to hide from everyone and everything. Jesus saw her brokenness and came to meet her, ready to have a difficult but necessary conversation with her.

Beloved, Jesus still comes and waits for us. In our most embarrassing and confusing moments, He is there. He desires to have honest, soul-searching conversations with us—conversations that move us from the impulse to hide in shame to the courage to become witnesses of His love.

During this Lent, Jesus waits for us too. He wants to meet us at our well of shame. He wants to have a difficult but honest conversation with us. He wants to talk about our shameful stories and our insatiable thirst—not to condemn us, but to offer us living water.

PRAYER

Lord, grant me the courage to have honest but difficult conversations about my life with you, this Lenten season, and the openness to spiritual renewal and transformation.  Amen.

May God bless you.
