About St. Cecilia
St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Ho-Dome serves as one of the key Catholic faith communities in the deanery of Ho and has played both a spiritual and social role in the local community for decades.
The parish traces its official recognition to a formal establishment by the Catholic hierarchy under the leadership of Bishop Francis Anani Kofi Lodonu, who opened St. Cecilia Parish at Ho-Dome on 10 October 1976. The missionary zeal and organisational groundwork for the parish were led by Fr. Evaristus Etorwu Amegadzi, its first parish priest and founder.
Since its founding, St. Cecilia has been part of the broader growth of Catholicism in the region.Â
The Diocese of Ho itself became a distinct ecclesiastical territory on 19 December 1994 when it was carved out from the Diocese of Keta-Ho, with Ho as its centre. The parish forms one of the active faith communities within this diocesan structure.Â
Over the years, the parish has become an anchoring institution for worship, pastoral care, and community life in Ho-Dome. It continues to offer regular liturgical services, spiritual formation activities, and support for catechesis and faith development among children, youth and adults. As a Catholic parish, St. Cecilia also participates in diocese-wide initiatives around education, social outreach, and sacramental preparation.
Beyond liturgical life, the church is recognized locally as a gathering place for moments of communal solidarity. For instance, it has hosted thanksgiving services and community events tied to wider social developments in the Ho-Dome area, including thanksgiving events that unite local chiefs and residents.
Today the parish is served by priests appointed by the diocesan bishop, Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, S.V.D. and remains deeply woven into the spiritual fabric of Ho and the wider Volta Catholic community.
